I've been reading a lot about the over vaccination of companion animals. I am having a difficult time finding a vet who administers the 3 year Distemper vaccine. It appears to be the same vaccine as the one year, but it is labled by the manufacturer as valid for 3 years. Chiclet has an allergice reaction when she gets her vaccines every year and acts so sick it scares us. We give her benadryl to keep her face from swelling up. I hate to go through this every single year but we need to have proof of current vaccinations for boarding. We're going to try the Rover Oaks kennel in Katy since they accept the 3 yr distemper/parvo vaccine but I can't find a vet that will give it or document the vaccine is good for 3 years. Has anyone run into this problem?

Thanks,
Kathy Falkenbury

Just an update..we found Dr. Wiltshire at Lakeside Animal Clinic on Kirkwood near Westheimer. He will work with you regarding the validity of Rabies & Distemper/Parvo vaccines. So Chiclet & Peanut got one less stick in the rear the other day and they were so happy. No allergic reactions this trip because of it. It was wonderful! I've had previous experience with Dr. Wiltshire when my senior cat was ill & I couldn't get an appointment with my usual vet. He and his staff have really impressed us so we've switched all our fur babies to his clinic. biggrin
