Anyone available for an basic, impromptu play hour this weekend?
Can anyone suggest a mid-Sacramento safe small dog area? The toy group has cut back to once every four weeks and we have cabin fever , We would drive almost anywhere in Sacramento Sunday late morning or early afternoon. Ph. number in our profile.

Hey Sus....we have a dog park in Rio Linda at West 2nd and there is never anyone there...we usually have the run of the place...in case you are ever interested. Cain is now officially vacinnated and ready to play. Let's just hope he can behave himself. He likes to bark a lot for some reason.

He has developed this new little thing where he crawls on his belly when I call him to come....I hope he shows everyone his new trick at the meetup...doubtful though!

Feed only 1/2 of the usual food in the AM, treat or a tiny amount of foods at lunch or whenever the very first person comes home. All the family should practice the sit for food commands for the "treats" or "cookies" as we always say! All day every day.
The best command a dog can learn is stay back from any door to the outside.. SAFETY is an issue when your arm length can't hold all your babies when you answer the door!

You want to teach the crawl as a trick?
When he does this on his own give him a TINY TINY piece of REAL meat and say Crawl Cain...
believe me he will learn the word in a heartbeat... well maybe after 60 tries is more like it!
Come, is another well treated "trick"
Keep the nighttime meal in a treat bag, making certain the are really hungry.
Every dog that RUNS to you after the command gets a kibble and those that don't NONE! :(
It is time intensive and works well when you are watching TV or cooking BUT never when you are eating please.
While you sit and relax all three need to sit and wait for the treats
Grabbing gets you NOTHING, standing gets you NOTHING.

Poodle pack and Sus,
This is excellent! I have so many books and I am guilty of spoiling my dog and I did it cos he was a rescue and really in bad shape, now he uses that to his benefit. I have to undo my bad habits. Thanks for this. Elijah is a closet eater too! Cheers !
