So I'm really new hear. I just googled message boards about Chihuahuas breaking their legs.
Here's the story: So I have a 6 and 1/2 month old Chi Femail and she's hyper as can be because she's a puppy. So my dad came home from a long day of work tonight, and of course, my puppy (Her name is Ginger by the way) was all wired up and excited. My dad and her always play this little chasing game outside in the grass in our yard and of course it's dark out and I told him to be careful but he accidently stepped on her back leg and immediatly she went off crying and yelping like she was dying! She was limping and trying to walk and it was the saddest thing I've ever seen. My little 15 year old heart dropped. The moment it happened I sware I heard a quiet cracking noise and I almost started crying. She happend to run right twords me, so I picked her up and she was still crying, this was maybe 45 seconds after. I gave her to my dad, and her kind of calmed her down just by conforting her but every time he moved her just a little bit, she would cry. And right of the bat, I was thinking the worse, we we're going to have to put her down like we did last summer to our older 2 Chihuahua (15 & 16 years old). After about 5 minutes we all went inside (my mom too) and sat on the couch. No crying right now though. So my dad was just, you know wondering, if anything was broken so he lifter her up and let her back legs hang a little and she just started cry and yelling and I got that feeling again. So my dad immediatly said "I guess we'll have to take her to the emergency vet" and off they went. I haven't talked to him since, and this was around 11: 15 PM tonight, and it's not 12:30 almost. I'm hoping everything okay. My mom's been balling non stop since it happen because she has a very close relationship with Ginger, since she doesn't work and is home all day with her. Any ideas on what might happen? I think it might be on her upper leg. It's the back right, and maybe it could be her hip? I'm not sure. And my dad is definitaly feeling very guilty about it. Please keep her in your prayers, as tonight might be a long friday night for us, waiting to her good news (hopefully) I'll attach a picture of the cutie. ![]() |

Yupp, they're both home sleeping lol. She has a huge pink splint on her back leg and is probably gonna sleep all day. She's doing good though, thank you for asking. I think he said that it was a just a spran and pulled a muscle. They said it limit her activities very low for the next 14-24 days.

That is good to hear,I hope that is all it is. Make sure you do follow the rules limiting her activity. It is hard to do but will be worth it. Ginger is a cutie. My sister has a chi named Ginger too. Your Dad must be relieved that her leg isn't broken.
Take Care and hugs to Ginger |

Theres a possibility of one of her bones being fractured but they couldn't tell by the xray. Thank you for your kind words.

Yeah me too. Of course she wants to run around and do the stuff she usually does and it's so hard to keep her from not doing it.

Poor darlin'. I'll pray it is only a sprain. I feel as sorry for your Dad as I do poor Ginger. I would feel horrible if I did something to hurt one of my babies.
Keep us posted on how she is doing. Syndi & The 3huahuas! (Maggie, Holly, & Scooter) |

What a beautiful little girl you have. I read your story and i know how scary things like that can be. I lost my male chi in April of this year .He was hit by a car and i im a stay at home mom too and he was just my little companion ,following me around all day. I have two more chihuahuas now 5 months and 4 months old and i do know how easily they can get hurt . So anyhow just wanted to say so glad to see the follow ups that she is okay and i hope you and your family is much better as well. Keep the post up going i love to know how she healed. WHAT A CUTIE!!!
