Worldwide Chihuahua Meetup Message Board › How much Chihuahua do you see in my new Puppy?

I just picked up "Peanut" today from the local rescue shelter. He is 12 weeks old and we have no clue about what types of breeds are in him. The guys at the shelter said they were thinking Chihuahua/Yorkie/Terrier. His siblings all had slightly long to long coats, and he was the only short coat in the litter.
Could any of you that are familiar with the Chihuahua breed please share your opinions of what you can see him? We are considering doing the DNA test at our local vet when we see her on Monday, just not sure yet if that is worth the money or even accurate. Thanks for your time! Paul |

Congratulations on Peanut . I do see chihuahua, maybe jack russell. My neighbors have a jack russell and she had puppies with a chihuhahua and they look similar to peanut. If it were me I wouldn't care what breeds are in him ( as I am sure you are just curious). Just love and enjoy him.

Awwww. adorable!! I have to agree with Lisa, Chihuahua/jack russell. I also agree with her about just enjoying him, he needs lots of love, love, love, not testing. Have a happy life with Peanut!

Being a breeder of registered AKC Chihuahuas for years (now retired) I can tell you for sure that Peanut is 100% pure
LOVE !!!!! That is all that matters. You are a wonderful person to adopt a rescue and give him a good happy home and a healthy start in life. He will make you a great companion, he will be loyal, trusting and above all (if he has even an ounce of Chi in him) your favorite entertainment each and every day. He may be one of the "rare" Chi-whoppers or also known as Crockpot (versus teacup variety). The only thing that matters is the love you give him and he gives back in return. Good food, good home and good love far outweigh questionable linage. He's just perfect. The only thing that would make him any better is if he were at my house instead of yours. Give that boy some kisses and lots of hugs from Mimi and the Herd. ![]() |

The first thing that came to my mind is a Beagle mix of some sort. Mostly because of the ears and head shape. I'll be curious what you do find out if you do the DNA test.
IF this precious little guy isn't an official Chi ... don't let that stop you from coming out here. He can be an honorary Chi. Thank you for rescuing Peanut. He is truly adorable. May you both enjoy a long and happy future together. Syndi & The 3huahuas! (Maggie, Holly, & Scooter) |

Thanks everyone for the opinions and advice! We had no expectation that he would be 100% anything, just thought knowing a little more about him may help us to be aware of any tendencies that he may have during training. It would also maybe give us a hint of how big he may become as an adult! He is 4.5lbs right now at 12 weeks. His house mate is a 6lbs 11 month old Maltese named Kirby.
We still aren't sure on a name yet, so if any of you have ideas we would love to hear them! Current front runners in no particular order: Peanut (his name from the rescue) Peter/Pete/Petey (Peter Pan peanut butter) Hurley (he did throw up 7 times in my lap during the hour ride home) Colt Jenkins Ruger/ Rugger/ Roogy Thanks again everyone! |
